It is a good deal more ordinary than the version in films. You arrive, sit down and listen, and the chair may ask whether anyone is new, which you can answer or let pass. The venue and start time for each one are in the schedule above.
Do I have to believe in God to go to AA?
No. Belief is not a condition of anything here. What members take that to mean varies enormously, people who hold no belief at all attend in numbers, and nobody is asked to profess anything. A larger meeting usually has a wider mix of views in it.
What does a sponsor actually do?
Someone further along who agrees to take your calls and answer honestly. The relationship is one way on purpose: they are not asking you for support in return. You do not need one to go to your first meeting, or your tenth.
