Questions about AA in Maine

Are there really no meetings in Maine?

They exist. What is missing is our copy of where and when. Maine has A.A. meetings running this week and none of them has reached the lists behind these pages.

What is the quickest way to find one near me?

Your local A.A. intergroup or central office keeps the current list for your area and has somebody on the end of a phone. A treatment center or hospital nearby will usually know the standing meetings too.

Will anybody know I was there?

Anonymity is the principle the whole thing rests on, and it is taken seriously in the room. There is no attendance record, so there is nothing that could be handed to anybody later. Choosing a meeting a few towns over is a common way to feel easier about it.

What happens at a first A.A. meeting?

Most meetings run an hour, start on time, and look like any other room full of people having a conversation. Newcomers are usually asked if there is anybody new, and you can stay quiet through that too. Plenty of people sit through their first few without speaking. If it is not for you, nothing happens. No one follows it up.

Is there anything here for families?

Going along by yourself is allowed, and it is more common than people think. It will not get the other person into a room. What it does is tell you what you are dealing with, from people who have been on both sides of it. If you want to understand the treatment side as well, (844) 822-5800 is answered around the clock.
