Questions about treatment in New Hampshire
How much is rehab in NH?
What rehab costs in NH is settled by two questions before a program quotes anybody: where you sleep, and who is paying. 17 of the centers in this state keep people overnight and 83 do not, which is the widest gap anywhere in the range. The payer then decides how much of that reaches you at all. So be assessed before you ask for a figure, because the level of care somebody lands on sets which price list you are even reading.
How to pay for inpatient rehab?
Most people pay for inpatient rehab through coverage, not savings, so start with what you can get. There is no enrollment season for New Hampshire Medicaid, which covers addiction treatment, and an application can go in the same week you decide to go. If you buy your own plan instead, this state sends residents to the federal marketplace rather than running one of its own, which its neighbors all do. If none of it applies today, a Doorway will still assess and refer you while that gets sorted.
Do you have to pay to go to rehab for drugs?
Not always, and not for the first step. New Hampshire runs nine regional Doorways whose job is to screen you, assess you and refer you on, and that service is funded rather than paid for by the person using it. Each one also holds a flexible fund for costs no insurer covers: the ride to a program, childcare while you attend, a few nights of housing, clothes for an interview. What the rehab itself costs does depend on who is paying.
How long does a person stay in rehab for drugs?
A person stays as long as the care plan says, which is why residential programs are sold in blocks of weeks and almost nobody uses exactly one block. New Hampshire funds the revisiting: continuous recovery monitoring is one of the five services every Doorway has to deliver, so somebody is still following the plan after an admission ends. An outpatient course is not shorter, only lighter: fewer hours in a week and more weeks of them. What a person was using changes the medical care, not that arithmetic.
How long does a person stay in a detox center?
A detox stay is the short one, counted in days, and it is a different thing from rehab: it treats the withdrawal and then hands you on to the treatment that follows. 27 centers in New Hampshire provide one. Asking for the wrong one of the two down the phone costs days, which is what the Doorways are there to prevent, since they assess against the ASAM criteria at any hour. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal is the dangerous case, so involve a doctor or the number at the top of this page first.
When in rehab for alcohol, what happens?
In rehab for alcohol the first days are medical and the rest are not. Withdrawal gets managed first, with medication if the drinking has been heavy and daily. After that a day is mostly talking: a group session, an individual one, some education about what heavy drinking does, and work on the first weeks after discharge. Medication for alcohol use disorder can be started before you leave and carry on at home, which surprises people who think medication is only for opioids.
