Questions about AA in Guerneville
What is listed near Guerneville?
16 within 5 miles, which is how far this page had to reach to show you a full week. 10 are in Guerneville itself.
Can I find a meeting in Guerneville on any day?
Not every day. Meetings are listed on 6 days, and Sunday has nothing.
Are the AA meetings in Guerneville open to anyone?
11 of the 16 listed here are marked open, which means anyone can attend, including family. 5 are marked closed, for people who want to stop drinking.
Do I have to give my name at an AA meeting?
You do not have to give a name at all, and nobody will press you. It is a tradition rather than a law, so it rests on the people present rather than on a policy. If a particular room feels wrong, another one on the list will feel different.
What is the Big Book?
A text from 1939, which accounts for some of the language in it. A companion volume covers the twelve traditions, which are about how groups run rather than how a person stops drinking. A discussion meeting asks less of a first visit than a Big Book one.
Is AA the same as rehab?
No. A meeting is support; treatment is medical care. If drinking has reached the point where stopping brings on shaking, sweating or worse, that is a medical question and not a willpower one. Treatment is something you buy and a meeting is not, which is the whole of the difference in practical terms.
