Does medication assisted treatment stop me attending?
You can attend. Groups differ in how they talk about medication, and both of those things are true at once. In some areas there are meetings run specifically for people on medication assisted treatment. Asking the chair quietly before the hour starts is the direct way to find out where a group stands.
Will they turn me away if I am still using?
No. Wanting to stop is the whole of it. There is no intake, no paperwork and no assessment, because a meeting is not a treatment program. Coming off opioids or benzodiazepines without medical supervision can be dangerous, so treat that as a medical question.
Do I have to speak at a meeting?
Not once, and not at any meeting. If you do want to speak, nobody interrupts and nobody responds directly, which is part of the format. A bigger meeting is easier to be quiet in than a small one.
