Questions about NA in Birmingham
Are there NA meetings in Birmingham, AL?
21 meetings sit in Birmingham itself.
What is the earliest and latest meeting near Birmingham?
The first of the day is 12:00 PM, the last is 7:00 PM.
Which meetings near Birmingham can anyone attend?
Open meetings account for 10 of the 21 above.
Do meetings run on Saturday and Sunday?
The weekend carries 3, and the weekdays carry 18.
Do I have to pay to go to a meeting?
Meetings cost nothing to attend, and that is a tradition rather than an offer. Newcomers are usually told not to put anything in, and plenty of members never do. Turning up with no money at all changes nothing about how you are received.
Is NA tied to a church?
No. The program describes itself as spiritual rather than religious, and the distinction is deliberate. Many members take the group itself, or simply something other than their own will, as the whole of it. None of it is a condition of walking in.
Do I need to have stopped using before my first meeting?
No. The door is the same for someone who used an hour ago and someone who has years. Some groups read a short welcome at the start that says exactly this out loud. Coming off opioids or benzodiazepines without medical supervision can be dangerous, so treat that as a medical question.
