Questions about treatment in Washington
What is Ricky's Law in Washington?
Ricky's Law is the Washington statute that folded substance use into the Involuntary Treatment Act, so somebody can be held for treatment without agreeing to it. A family cannot start one directly. You request a designated crisis responder, who must interview the person, find a likelihood of serious harm or grave disability, and first ask whether they will come in willingly. An initial hold is no more than 120 hours. If the responder declines, an immediate family member can then petition the superior court.
How much does rehab cost in Washington state?
Rehab in Washington state has no one price, because the word covers care that costs nothing alike. A recovery house here means about five hours of treatment a week in a bed you sleep in, while a medically monitored program means nurses on duty with a physician on call, and Washington calls both of them residential. An assessment decides which one you are placed in, and that placement sets the bill. Ask what level you were assessed at before you ask the price.
Do you have to pay to go to rehab for alcohol?
Not always. If you are uninsured and your income is low, Washington pays for alcohol treatment through the Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization covering your region, out of block grant and state money, and only within what that region has left. Washington also publishes who comes first: pregnant people who inject drugs, then other pregnant people, then others who inject drugs, then anyone in the first year after giving birth. Parents involved with child protective services come next.
Does Apple Health cover therapy?
Yes. Apple Health covers counseling and therapy for a substance use disorder, plus the medications for opioid and alcohol use disorder that 203 centers here offer. Apple Health is the name Medicaid carries in Washington, so a card reading Molina or Coordinated Care names a plan inside it, and all five of those plans cover the same basic services. The step it saves you: no referral from that plan is needed, you call a treatment agency in its network yourself.
How to qualify for Medicaid in Washington state?
To qualify for Medicaid in Washington state an adult has to be 19 through 64, live here, not be entitled to Medicare, and have household income at or under the Apple Health limit, which for one person sits a little above eighteen hundred dollars a month and climbs with household size. Applications go in through Washington Healthplanfinder, with no enrollment season to wait for, and coverage starts on the first day of the month you applied rather than the day you are approved.
What qualifies you for inpatient rehab?
Three things qualify you for inpatient rehab in Washington: how severe the disorder is, what medical complications come with it, and the withdrawal risk of the particular drug or alcohol involved. An assessment weighs them, so it is not something you choose or buy. There is no single inpatient door either. Of the five residential levels the state licenses, one takes pregnant and parenting women with their children under six, and one is medically monitored around the clock.
How long is a rehab stay for alcohol?
A rehab stay for alcohol lasts as long as the assessments say it needs to, which is what Washington writes down instead of a number of days. The first assessment sets the length and later ones weigh the progress your plan shows, so the stay is revisited while it runs instead of being settled at the door. After a bed the usual next step is intensive outpatient, nine to twelve hours a week for up to 90 days, where most of the treatment time goes.
How long does a person stay in a detox center?
Long enough for the withdrawal to be managed, which Washington treats as a clinical judgment rather than a set number of days. The state calls detox withdrawal management and recognizes three levels of it, from a bed where staff monitor you up to a hospital, and the withdrawal risk decides which one you need. Only 51 listings here include it, in 27 cities. Coming off alcohol or benzodiazepines after heavy daily use is the dangerous case, so involve a doctor or call the number at the top of this page first.
