Nothing matches all of those at once. Try taking one off.
What these mean
- Open
- Anyone may attend, including family, friends and people who are simply curious. Nobody has to say why they came.
- Closed
- For people who have a desire to stop drinking. If you are not sure that is you, an open meeting is the safe first choice.
- Newcomer
- Aimed at people at their first few meetings. Someone will usually explain how it works before it starts.
- Women
- Only women attend.
- Wheelchair Access
- The room can be reached and used in a wheelchair.
- Secular
- Run without religious content. The steps are used without prayer.
- Discussion
- A topic is raised and whoever wants to speak does. You can sit through the whole hour without saying anything.
- Speaker
- One member tells their own story for most of the hour. Nothing is asked of anyone else, which makes it the easiest kind to sit through on a first visit.
- Big Book
- Reading and discussion from Alcoholics Anonymous, the book members call the Big Book.
- Step Study
- The group works through the Twelve Steps in order.
- Literature
- Reading and discussion from AA literature.

Questions about AA in Darby
How many AA meetings are within driving distance of Darby?
96 within 5 miles, which is how far this page had to reach to show you a full week. 2 are in Darby itself.
Can I find a meeting in Darby on any day?
Every day. Friday is the busiest with 18 meetings, and no day is empty.
Are the AA meetings in Darby open to anyone?
61 of the 96 listed here are marked open, which means anyone can attend, including family. 35 are marked closed, for people who want to stop drinking.
Which AA groups meet in Darby?
One group, Fullness Of Life, and it is linked above with everything it runs.
What literature does AA use?
The volume most meetings read from, formally titled Alcoholics Anonymous. A companion volume covers the twelve traditions, which are about how groups run rather than how a person stops drinking. Nobody will ask whether you have a copy.
What is a step meeting?
A list of twelve, read out at most meetings and worked at a person's own pace. They move from admitting the problem through a written inventory to making amends, and the later ones are about keeping the practice going. The schedule gives the day and venue for each.
What is the best meeting to start with?
Convenience beats everything else on a first visit. If a particular room does not suit you, it says nothing about the next one. You can leave at any point without explaining why.
