Questions about AA in Chester

How many AA meetings are within driving distance of Chester?

65 inside 5 miles, across 11 cities. Every row says which town it is in and how far.

Can I find a meeting in Chester on any day?

Every day. Wednesday is the busiest with 13 meetings, and no day is empty.

What is the difference between an open and a closed meeting in Chester?

39 of the 65 listed here are marked open, which means anyone can attend, including family. 23 are marked closed, for people who want to stop drinking.

Which AA groups meet in Chester?

3 groups listed in Chester. A group is the set of people who run a meeting, and most run more than one a week.

What happens when the person drinking is not ready?

The sequence most families describe is years rather than weeks. Going to an open A.A. meeting yourself is a common first step, and hearing members describe their own decision to stop is often the useful part. If it has reached the point of physical danger, a doctor is the right call rather than a meeting.

Is going to meetings enough on its own?

No. One is a room full of members and the other is a clinical service. Meetings are free and are held by members, treatment is clinical care delivered by staff, and a person may use both at once or either on its own. Calling about treatment does not commit you to any of it.

Do I have to call myself an alcoholic to go?

No. The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking, and a desire is not the same as having managed it. There is nothing to prove on the way in. An open meeting is the safe first choice if you are not sure, and the table above says which those are.
