Questions about AA in New England
How many AA meetings are within driving distance of New England?
12 inside 25 miles, across 2 cities. Every row says which town it is in and how far.
Which days have AA meetings in New England?
Sunday has nothing listed, and the other 6 days do.
Can I go to a meeting in New England if I am not sure I am an alcoholic?
Most of what is listed is closed rather than open: 6 closed against 1 open. Closed means it is for people who want to stop drinking themselves.
What is the difference between a group and a meeting?
One, and everything it runs is listed above. A group is the set of people who hold a meeting, so one group can account for several entries in the week.
Do I have to give my name at an AA meeting?
Giving your name is something you choose to do, not something required. People go by first names and what is said in the room is expected to stay there, though that rests on custom rather than on law. Nobody in the room has any reason to learn your last name.
How much time does this take?
An hour in most rooms. Speaker meetings sometimes run longer. The time cost of a first visit is the hour plus the drive, and nothing else. A morning meeting is an option in some towns and the table says where.
Should my first meeting be online?
Both work for different people and the fellowship has no view on which is better. People in rural areas often rely on online meetings because the nearest room is an hour away. You can try one of each in the same week.
