How do people go back to AA after a relapse?
Drinking again after a period of sobriety is ordinary and the rooms treat it as such. The longer the gap gets, the harder it feels to return, which is the only real argument for going sooner. Nobody will raise it with you.
Can I go to AA if I am an atheist?
No, and the fellowship has spent ninety years arguing about the wording internally. Rooms vary enormously: some lean hard on the religious language and others barely touch it. That variation holds across New York as much as in Orange County.
