Questions about AA in Troy

How many AA meetings are there in Troy?

53 a week, run by 23 groups inside Troy.

Is there an AA meeting every day in Troy?

There is at least one listed every day of the week, including Saturday, which is the thinnest day here with 5 meetings.

Are the AA meetings in Troy open to anyone?

Most of what is listed is closed rather than open: 30 closed against 23 open. Closed means it is for people who want to stop drinking themselves.

Can I go to AA if I am on medication?

Yes. Attending has nothing to do with what your doctor has prescribed. Medication for alcohol dependence is prescribed by clinicians and is a separate thing from what happens in a meeting. A.A. has no official position on any of it, whatever an individual member says.

Is anyone allowed to go to an AA meeting?

Nobody checks, and nobody is turned away for being unsure. A desire to stop is also compatible with not being certain you want to stop, which is where most people actually are. If one room feels like the wrong fit, another will not.

Can I go to a meeting if I am still drinking?

Yes, and nobody will test you at the door. Alcohol withdrawal is the one worth taking seriously: stopping abruptly after heavy daily drinking can cause seizures, and that is a medical matter rather than a question of willpower. An open meeting is the easiest first visit and the labels say which those are.
