Questions about AA in Manhattan

How many AA meetings are there in Manhattan?

23 meetings listed in Manhattan itself, and the week above is all of them rather than a selection.

Can I find a meeting in Manhattan on any day?

There is at least one listed every day of the week, including Sunday, which is the thinnest day here with 2 meetings.

What is the difference between an open and a closed meeting in Manhattan?

13 of the 23 listed here are marked open, which means anyone can attend, including family. 10 are marked closed, for people who want to stop drinking.

Can family come to an AA meeting?

Yes. Open is the label to look for above. The person you bring will hear members talking about their own drinking, which some family find useful and some find hard. If every nearby meeting is closed, an Al-Anon meeting may be the better fit for a family member.

How do people handle a family member who refuses help?

The one thing in your control is what you do, which is not much comfort and is still true. Most members describe having gone when they decided to, not when they were told to. Nobody will ask you to explain who you are there about.

Can I go to a meeting if I am still drinking?

Yes. Nobody is turned away for not having stopped yet. A meeting has no medical capability at all, which is why the physical side of stopping is a question for a doctor. You can leave at any point without explaining yourself.
