Questions about AA in Madison

What is listed near Madison?

Madison has 2 meetings in the list above, so it reaches out to 20 miles and picks up 17 in nearby towns.

Is there an AA meeting every day in Madison?

There is at least one listed every day of the week, including Sunday, which is the thinnest day here with 1 meeting.

Can I go to a meeting in Madison if I am not sure I am an alcoholic?

9 of the 19 listed here are marked open, which means anyone can attend, including family. 10 are marked closed, for people who want to stop drinking.

What happens when the person drinking is not ready?

What tends to help is support for you rather than pressure on them. Keeping a meeting list to hand for the day they ask is more use than raising it again. Al-Anon keeps its own separate schedule, which is worth searching for by name.

Is it a problem to be on antidepressants in AA?

Yes, and the fellowship's own literature puts the matter between a member and their doctor. If somebody in a room tells you to come off a prescription, they are speaking for themselves and are not qualified to say it. The schedule above gives the day and venue for each one.

Is going to meetings enough on its own?

No. A.A. is a free fellowship that meets regularly and rehab is clinical treatment that costs money. Meetings have no doctors, no medication and no supervision, which is exactly why they cost nothing. A doctor is the right first call if the physical side worries you.
