Questions about AA in Miami

How many AA meetings are near Miami?

18 within 10 miles, which is how far this page had to reach to show you a full week. 12 are in Miami itself.

Which day is busiest for AA in Miami?

There is at least one listed every day of the week, including Sunday, which is the thinnest day here with 1 meeting.

Can I go to a meeting in Miami if I am not sure I am an alcoholic?

Most of what is listed is closed rather than open: 10 closed against 8 open. Closed means it is for people who want to stop drinking themselves.

What is the Big Book?

A book written by the early members, and the reason A.A. is called what it is. The twelve steps appear in it, which is why step meetings and Big Book meetings overlap. The labels above say what each room does.

What happens at a birthday meeting?

Markers for elapsed time, given out when somebody wants one. Different areas use different intervals and different objects, and none of it is standardized by anybody. An open meeting is the easiest place to watch the custom without taking part.

Is it all right to turn up having had a drink?

Yes. Nobody is turned away for not having stopped yet. What a group can offer is a chair and an hour, which is not nothing and is not medical care. Turning up having had a drink is not a reason to be turned away.
