Will anybody know I was there?
Anonymity is the principle the whole thing rests on, and it is taken seriously in the room. Nobody asks what you do for a living, where you work, or who you are related to. People volunteer what they want to volunteer. Choosing a meeting a few towns over is a common way to feel easier about it.
Can I go if the person I am worried about will not?
Going along by yourself is allowed, and it is more common than people think. Hearing members describe their own experience tends to be more use than anything written down, because it is the part nobody writes down. Going once and deciding it is not for you is a perfectly normal outcome.
Are there online meetings as well?
Online and telephone meetings both exist, and neither asks you to be anywhere in particular. Cameras off is normal and nobody comments on it. You can listen to a dozen before you ever say anything. Starting online and moving to a room later is a well worn path.
